I Think There are Two Different D15B VTEC Engines - Anyone Care to Debate?
I touched on this briefly in another topic, but here's my question:
Are there not two different JDM D15B VTEC engines?
I recall reading an elaborate 3-stage VTEC article linked from a topic here on H-T, and it showed a 1.5L D15B VTEC engine with a really cool 3-stage VTEC head on it. They rated the engine at 130hp, but then I noticed that this was an engine from an EK model and to me that doesn't seem like it'd be very common.
With all of the imported D15B VTEC engines rated at "130hp" it got me wondering if all of these are the true 130hp 3-stage VTEC engines. It also made me wonder if the majority of the D15b VTECs are in fact not the cool 3-stage VTEC ones, then what are they really and how much power do they really make?
I saw someone state that the D16Z6 is not as good as a D15B VTEC, but I'd have to say the edge would still be with the D16Z6 because of the added cc and torque/hp.
Basically I'm thnking out loud on this one, and I've been wondering this for a long time since reading that article. It makes me think people have been getting kind of shafted thinking they're getting more hp than a 1.6L, when in fact the ratings are wrong.
*EDIT*
Okay I just got off the phone with a well-respected engine importer in the ATL (Pacific engine Co.) and we were discussing this subject.
He has a few books with all of the weird-*** JDM engines and their block codes, hp ratings, etc.
In the 1994-1995 book the D15B VTEC is rated at:
120hp@6800rpm
So what I assumed is correct I guess. The D15B VTEC is more like a 120hp engine than a 130hp engine.
Also intersting is the ZC 1.6L VTEC:
130hp@6600rpm
Again I've always contended that the 1.6L makes more power, but does so at less rpm because of the bigger stroke.
Thoughts?

What Book was the information obtained from?
"1992 D15B VTEC"
http://www.honda.co.jp/factboo....html
"1996 D15B VTEC (3S)
http://www.honda.co.jp/factboo....html
The only engine that makes 120/6800 I'm thinking is the SOHC ZC NON VTEC.

There are actually more than 2 although the other's are just variations of the 2 main D15B's. The most common one is the D15B - similar to the D16Z6 (Si/EX) and the other is the D15B VTEC-E which is similar to the D15Z1 (VX) Check this link, it explains them all in good detail: http://asia.vtec.net/article/d15b/

the jdm d15b vtec is better, better cam shaft and free flowing head, the angle of which the valves sit, kinda like a d16a6 head
good set up is z6 bottom,p29 pistons,built a6 head
