Default GM Synchromesh in s2k

I put some GM Synchromesh in my brothers 2000 s2000 over the weekend. When it comes time, I'll be doing the same to mine. It didn't fix the second gear grind, but it sure made shifting smoother. Just throught I'd share that information. Now Honda says use Genuine Honda MTF only, and GM says "for GM cars only", so I don't know if that's going to turn into an issue, but I really doubt it. If something breaks I'll update this post, but in the meantime, the syncromesh is awesome.

does honda not warranty the second gear grind? if not, how can they not warranty that?

how did shifting feel before in your brothers s? was it just tought to get into gear, and the Synchromesh just made it easier?

I don't think there was any recall or anything ofr the second gear grind, I don't know if there was even a service bulletin about it. The synchromesh did make it quite a bit easier to get in and out of gear.

There is a service bulletin for the second gear grind but I think it only applies to 2000 models, I've been on GM sycromesh for about 10k miles about to change and get some fresh sycromesh in, shifts great, no problems. Love that stuff

Ya, it can't be just regular oil, it smells too good for that =P Although I used regular oil for my Civic tranny for a while and didn't really notice a difference. I'm not sure what exactly makes up the synchromesh, it's deffinitely not just plain old engine oil though. It's also quite a bit thicker than honda MTF.

i used honda MTF for my tranny fluid change and it work pretty good and is stil lw orking alright with an occasional 1-2 grind when driven pretty hard. i heard GM syncromesh was a great substitute but something with it not working that well when the heat build's up. i heard for track condition's REDLINE MT90 works better than both oe MTF and GM...o yah and the service bullentin's was for MY00's with certain vin#'s

I've heard the redline stuff is supposed to be really good as well. I just didn't have time to order any when I changed it, so I just picked up the syncromesh from NAPA
