For the past couple of hours my uncle has been trying to install my camshafts for me. The car idles like crap and then dies. We are having no luck at all here. I have directions from three different websites. Can someone please help me. We are so lost here and I have been searching for the past two hours. PLEASE HELP!

if you hit the gas before it dies does it run like crap.
Make sure it is in TDC
make sure the distrib. is tuned to the correct spec.

Well if I hit the gas it revs up ok but then when you let off it idles rough, starts to idle faster then just shuts off. No I wish, but they are just stage 1's. Its also starting to smoke a good bit as well. Were pretty sure its TDC

Use a timing light to check the timing.

Now my belt is slipping off my cam gears, it seems to jump a little bit. It looks like the intake cam gear is getting to much stress and then it jumps a little off the exhaust cam gear. Now what the hell is going on here????

If your distributor isnt having an effect on timing then Id say you dont have the cam in far enough to grip to rotor.

To get it TDC you are suppose to stick screw drivers in the slots of the camshafts, and look at the cam gears dots and make sure they are both facing eachother correct? Well when this happnes we put the screw drivers in the camshafts and the exhaust cam is one tooth off, and the belt jumps off the exhaust cam.
