Default Head Count (How many of you had to replace your head gasket)

Just curious. I have to replace it now in my ITR. They found a leak. I also had to do this with my GSR when I had it at about the mileage im at with my ITR.

Important word highlighted. Its probably a cam or cam cover seal.

62K miles here and no sign of this problem... If you pull off the valve cover, make sure you put a little sealant around the cam covers before replacing cover - this is a common oil leak source for all B series blocks.

Correct me if I'm wrong. If the head gasket blows, antifreeze mixes with your oil, and your engine will be completely worthless in less than 1000 miles right?

I can't believe people still remember that pep boys thread. The leak turned out to be one of the oil seals on the cams, cam gear side. Just like Trey had. Replaced and no more problems too date.

It was funny...

I would check out the seals on the cams...more than likely that is your problem.

I thought I had a leak as well. Pulled the head and replaced the gasket 2 times, then realized it was either the distributor O ring, or a cam seal live and learn I guess

If it is an oil leak and looks like the headgasket . . . it isn't. RJ is most likely right. More likely a cam seal.

Replaced the head gasket, but not because it needed replacing, and the leaking oil is most likely from somewhere other than the head gasket. As stated above you're looking at the valve cover gasket, the cam seal, or the distributor(not sure on this one).
