Default Turbo LS Spool

I am putting together a turbo kit for my RS 4dr, and I just recently bought an IHI-Borgwarner hybrid turbocharger (51T-32), which is supposed to be equivalent to a T3/T4 hybrid. I still have a long way to go, but for anyone with the same size turbo on a b18b, I was wondering at what point you're reaching full boost, and when it started spooling. This turbo is capable of over 20psi, but until I get the proper internal work done, I was only thinking of maybe between 5-10psi. A/R values are .6 cold (intake) and .7 hot (exhaust). *sorry, I think I posted this in two different forums , but feedback is appreciated *

Hmmm...

Cold side 0.60
Hot side 0.70

That combination should spool really late from what I can tell. It seems to not be appropriate for your setup unless you are building a high-revving monster.

I hit full boost at around 4100 with my Garrett T3/T04E .60 trim .63 AR and a stock b18b... 2.5" DP and test pipe, 3" catback, log style mani

Hey, mskibbz-T, how many psi is that at, and is it worth all that lag?

^ no offence... but that guy has a smaller turbo than you, so you're goign to have even more lag than him...

7 PSI right now... 3" DP, EL manifold, etc.. down the road will help it spool quicker

I have identical setup except i have a catalytic convertor and i have fool spool (9 psi) at 3800.

If you take maasures to decrease the spool time, you'll be fine. Go with an equal length manifold, 3" downpipe, 3" mandrel bent exhaust. The less i/c piping you have will also play a great role in how long it takes to spool.

I would go with a full racemanifold with the backdoor entrance intercooler to take out about 3 feet of intercooler piping, then have as few bends as possible from the I/C to the TB. Go with a tial 38mm wastegate and have the vacuum/boost source be one that is dedicated to ONLY the wastegate

all of those things should drastically improve your spool time (should be 10 psi @ about 4100-4300 MAX).

The unit I bought is internally wastegated, so scratch that wastegate idea. But, thanks again all for the feedback. Please, keep it comin

Just realized that the A/R values I listed are estimated by the seller, so they may not be precise. I haven't received the turbo yet, but after looking at some of the photos, we think the .60 I listed for the intake may be an over-estimation. But, regardless, please continue to reply if you have insight on this matter. Thanks to all.
