Default SC67 Turbo?

Hey H-T new to this site and to the honda scene. Got myself a Ej8 with a fully built ls vtec motor. It has a 60 trim turbo with .60/.48 ar. But i dont think this turbo will make 400+whp like i am aiming for. My buddy got a borg warner turbo for his s13 and selling his sc67 turbo. I can get it for really cheap! Will this turbo be too big? I want to make as much power as i can on pump gas so i say lke 500whp, and my rev limit is only 8200. Also what turbo is same as this turbo. Is it a gt40?

This is an insanely turbo that is much too big for your purposes at all. This basically a larger T3/T67 from Garrett. So that you don't think I'm just talking about the size alone, here is Precision's own Rod Short's quote from his 2003 review of this turbocharger:

We can build such a beast with a T3 style housing (.63 A/R) and a T04E or T04S cover. However, we usually build these as a PT67, which would be a straight T4 combination with a V-band back end and a "S" cover with a 4" inlet/2.5" outlet. This is a popular combo for the Supra guys.

What kind of power will this support? With proper tuning, the PT67 with the old "P trim" should support about 750-hp at the crank max'd out. If you upgrade to one of the newer GTQ wheels, you're on the verge of 800-hp at the crank. This is with the Precision housings only.

Should you put this on a Honda? We feel that anything under 2.0L won't really have enough exhaust energy to spool this thing, unless you shooting nitrous. If you aren't shooting NOS, we'd typically recommend this on a 3.0L engine and up.

PT/SC67 specs inducer=2.620" major=3.310"

Bottom line? Its too big to use, and will have difficulty fitting on an Inline Pro manifold. It would also create too much exhaust backpressure in that manifold..you need something better if pushing hard.

Don't try to get the most peak horsepower under pump gas like 500whp. The turbo will never react like a better sized application for the same power with better boost pressure. No matter how cheap it is as a deal its a bad idea, unless you're trying eventually for over 600whp on a drag-only application.

please read the quote again. it would be about 700whp, but not usable unless just drag racing.

Compressor housing will hit the block at an awkward angle. Without the 5 bolt turbine housing that comes in many of the ones used with an inline pro manifold, it makes it even worse for fitment. You'd have to grind away at the webbing of the block for quite a bit.

Get something else... something smaller

Is it a straight t3 or a T3/t4e ?

I'm guessing its a 60 trim t3/t4e with a .48 a/r turbine.

If it is, you can probably get mid 300's out of it, the .48 turbine cover chokes the turbo up.

You can get a .63 turbine cover for a couple hundred bucks, then it will be capable of mid 400's.

Yes. you are wrong.

See how it went from nothing then at 6500rpms he just Jumped to 9500rpms? That was lack of control and spiking power. That is not a good thing.. smaller is what you need.
