Default HELP - I have a partially Stripped Tensioner Bolt...

OK, I have a nearly finished hybrid b18c BUT have a partially stripped 14 mm tensioner bolt - any suggestions on how I can cinch up the timing belt.

Do those stupid looking alligator things/sockets work, or where can I get something that will tighten that mug up?

Tight as hell on the driver side of the engine bay with this motor in an EF (91 civic)...

Helpful suggestions if you can...

To be honest with you i would get a new bolt. What happens when you tighten it more and it strips more, its gonna be a PITA to get it out.Swing buy honda and get one for a few bux.If it was stripped a little you should still be able to use a normal socket but if you cant its time for a new one

you should buy a new bolt, but you can always use a 6 point socket to get it out. on that particular bolt, is not good to use a 12 point socket because your chances of stripping the head of the bolt will increse. if the head of that bolt is stripped, use a 8 point socket. have a friend place a pry bar behind the rachet your using, to keep the socket square to the bolt and also to keep you from further stripping the head of the bolt. that's what i did when i stripped mine, and up to this day i still have the same stripped bolt in there but i used the method i descrived every time i have to touch that bolt. hope that helps

well, i loosened the bolt with the sears kit which did not major damage it, and then tightened up the exhaust side of the belt, then reninserted the bolt and it was as easy as you can get.....i think i had not pre-tightened the ex side well enough - so simple solution

do yourself a favor though and get a new bolt, they only cost .52 cents at the dealer, and trust me it will save you the hassel later! i went through haveing to use a reverse easy out on mine cause it was stripped so bad. gloria
