Default Rear hatch lock...

I am stripping the car for ECHC. The rear hatch lock is electrically controlled with that little switch. If I unplug everything and pull out the switch motor, can I still unlock and lock the hatch with the key? I believe I can, I just want to make sure, I don't want to start pulling everything off and then the hatch cannot be secured.

H2 = owned in '04

Why not pull all of the latch stuff out and use some of those JDM spring tie downz?

Hatch shocks/latch = gone.

Elaborate.... I am not "up" on my JDM stuff

I was thinking of maybe trying to use "hood latches" or some sort of clips on the back edge. But, I'd rather minimize the drilling that I have to do.

PS=> I hope I do well in H2 next year. I was three seconds back to the H2 times at Summit Point on my time trial time, using stock suspension. I hope a stiffer suspension and more experience can get me two to three seconds.

wonder if a older teg ('95) latch would work better vs. the electric one.

dave,

when i unplugged the battery, the hatch wouldn't open (for the airbag tray). figured out that if you turn the key all the way and hold it there while moving the latch will open the hatch.

if you disable the power mechanism the lock will not work.

hmm, my electric latch sticks open often enough i'd replace with a mechanical version, however, i'd guess my key wouldn't work.....
can the tumbler be removed from my electric latch and be attached to a mechanical one? without costing more than $10?

I'm guessing since it's Mugen it's $75. per fastener?

There we go again spending Daves money...

BTW while he's at it, can he replace the rear quarter windows and hatch glass with FAL pieces in his preferred racing class? (yet more ways to spend Daves money)
