i'm done with my 9005 conversion
One of my Silvania bulbs burnt out, this is the second one since i've done the conversion about a year ago and at $25 a bulb i'm done with it. Its too bad cause it looked really good. so i guess if anyone needs a single 9005 silverstar bulb let me know.
Just go get some cheap $6 Cool blues or regular 9005's...theyll still be brighter than 9006's. No sense in paying $25 a bulb for a halfass HID still-halogen-look, if you ask me.

wanna bet? They're tons brighter than 9006 bulbs. I had Silverstars for about 4 months before one went out. Before the Silverstars I had Cool Blue 9005's, so after the SS's went out I put the Cool Blues back in. Same amount of light, only slightly different color. As far as the 9005 conversion goes, Cool Blue is the best bang for the buck IMHO. One of my Cool Blues went out 2 days before putting in my HID, but they had lasted me 1.5 years. For only ~$15/pair, I'd say I got my money's worth.
But yeah, $25 for a bulb that only lasted me 4 months was just too much.

Probably not an issue, but are you touching the bulbs?
If you touch the bulbs with your fingers the oils get on there, and actually migrate through the glass. Causes bulbs to burn out. They usually warn about this on the package, so you are probably ok, just figured I'd mention it.
Wear some clean cloth gloves or something when you install them, to be safe.

I origianlly had philips ice whites, but they blew within 3 months. i then bought $6.99 ebay cheapos and theyre still going strong 12 months later....just get the cheap *** ones, in my experience they last every bit as long if not longer than philips/silvania's etc

The oils don't "migrate through the glass". But the oils cause temperature differences on the surface of the glass that cause the bulb to shatter, not just burn out. Your advice is good for that reason. Also, if you accidentally touch the surface of the bulb, wipe it with alcohol to remove the oils before re-installing.

The two 9005-converted bulbs that went out on me, both of them just burned out, they didn't shatter (thank goodness).

Does the increased wattage attribute to the plastic headlight lense having cracks or whatnot?
I did the 9005 conversion for about 5 months before I went HID. I eventually gave the bulbs to a friend who said they blew out. I cannot confirm how the bulbs were handled by him tho.
