Default 9005 headlight conversion

I recently did a 9005 sylvania silverstar bulb conversion to my headlight, since everyone said its the closest to HID's you'll ever get for $40 and seems like is not even as bright as my old 9006 catz bulb I bought 2 years ago. I put one side for catz and one side for the silverstar and I like the 9006 catz bulb and it's brighter also. Dont get me wrong I tested the stock one's too and yes the silverstar is brighter but I still think my old 9006 catz are better. But still to the silverstars....

The Catz bulbs must have been over-wattage bulbs. A 9005 conversion will ALWAYS be brighter than 9006 bulbs, period, assuming stock wattage on each and no crazy blue bulb tints and such.

how exactly do you do this conversion? dont you just get the bulb, and on the plastic housing on the bulb, you trim off a couple of peices or somethin?

can someone do a write up with maybe some pics too?

ok, so i do this conversion.. i got a DA so thats 9004.. would it be the same proceedure as 9006-9005's?

and do i have to worry about melting anything? and is there a way to take off the headlight housings and clean the inside of them from any dust? as the guy that did the write up said he had a little bit of dust on the "mirror" part, cleaned it off and everything worked better?

You can't do it on DA's, this is only for cars that use 9006 bulbs for the low beams.

Have you experienced any problems with heat? I don't want to melt the housing. I understand the 9005 bulbs are also in the highbeams, but wanted to make sure there weren't any problems before i did the conversion.

The bulbs won't last as long as 9006, but that's about it. When I had the 9005 conversion w/ Sylvania Cool Blues, they lasted 1.5 years before 1 burned out, which is very reasonable considering you get a 70% increase in light over stock 9006, and a pair of Cool Blues costs less than $20 most places.

What you said makes very little sense, but from what I can gather...

9005 is what the high beam bulb is. You are putting the same kind of bulb in your low beam lights. At that point you have the same bulb in high and low beam. The difference is the beam path. Highs are aimed high, and lows are aimed low. go figure...

You can still click your "brights" on and it will be much brighter since they are aimed off the ground.

I wonder if you ever noticed that Integra's have halogen-based PROJECTORS for the low beams... What do you think happens when you use 9005s in place of 9006 bulbs?

You go figure.

It's the first writeup of any kind i've done so, good to hear it's not terrible but yeah, I didn't even realize it was this late until I got towards the end and looked at the clock. I wanted to get it done tonite otherwise I knew i'd probably get lazy and never get around to finishing it.

for you as well, I can't be drinkin alone now can I? haha

3 tier lighting?

If you mean it looks like the cutoff has 3 levels, your headlights are aimed wrong. The low side of the cutoff on both projectors should be at the same level (~2.1" below horizontal at 25 ft. away), and the high side of the cutoff should be the same on both projectors, like this (Benz E-class bi-xenon projectors in my Teg pictured):

The left side of my light pattern is lower than the center, which is lower than the right, not by much though. Thought it was an effort not to blind oncoming traffic.

If you block one headlight and look at the beam pattern of the other one, each individually, you'll notice each has a "step" pattern with the lower side being towards the left. Both headlights should be aimed to the same height, so that the cutoff looks similar to this:

_________o-------------___________o-------------

It should NOT look like this:

_________o----------------------------oŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ

I noticed a huge difference when I went from OEM 9006 to Sylvania silverstar 9005. They still aren't HIDs though

I've driven more at night now w/ the 9005 conversion(i'm on night 2 now heh) and the light doesn't project further, but the area that it does project upon is definitely brighter and whiter
