Sylvania Silverstars...blown
One of my silverstars blew after 10 months of having them in my car. I did the 9005 conversion and the light was awesome, but i guess now its HID time, 6000k here I come.
How many people's silverstars have burnt out on them? I remember seeing a post somewhere about it.

Hmm.. I've been hearing alot of 9005 conversions blowing out. Could this possibly be because 9005's are for our highbeams? We obviously arent supposed to drive w/ our highbeams, and I'm sure that our 9006 low beams are designed to last much longer than a 9005 in Integras. Can anyone here prove my point? Also, do they make 9006 silverstars?

mine blew about a month ago, and i did the conversion only 6-7 months before. If it happens again i'm gonna say screw the conversion, i cant afford to keep buying $25 Bulbs.

the 9005 conversion w/ silverstars gives really good light, but in my case 50 bucks for less then 1 year of light sucks.
I would rather buy HID's and get 10 years of light for 450 dollars.

I recently started down the HID road... I should have done some research first, but found a great deal at my local tuner shop. $300 for a used set of HID's! So I snagged them up, installed them....
Waited for what seemed like an eternity for night to arrive, drove to the end of my street and was disappointed....
Long story short, I go the D2R instead of the D2S bulbs. D2R are for reflector systems, whereas the D2S bulbs are for the projector systems like tegs have. The guy at the tuner shop is going to make good on the system, but thought maybe I would pass this info along... I had no idea that there was different types of bulbs according to the type of light focusing equipment you had...

Re: Sylvania Silverstars...blown (Tomakit)
I had a SilverStar burn out about three weeks ago after putting them in 7-8 months ago. I am thinking about getting the cool blues and forgeting about it.
So I'm pimping one silverstar and one regular bulb and I can tell so much of a difference in headlights after driving around with two difference bulbs.

Re: Sylvania Silverstars...blown (Volcom)
I have not heard of alot of 9005 conversions going out. I have heard of several Silverstar bulbs burning out, however, including mine. I converted a set of 9005 Cool Blue bulbs way back in Summer 2001, shortly after getting my car. Around January of this year, I got a set of 9005 Silverstars and put those in. In April, one of them burned out on me. I put my 9005 Cool Blues back in, and they've been in there ever since. So I've had the Cool Blues for well over a year, and I've been running 9005 bulbs for low beams for a year and a half. I think it's a problem with the Silverstars... which is too bad because they looked pretty cool and lit up the road great.

okay, i guess my question is does anyone have 9006 silverstars and if so, how long, and would you recommend? Everyone that has silverstars seems to have done 9005 low beam conversion.

Got my cool blues converted to 9005. Been using for 4 months and I do quite a bit night driving, and no problems yet.
Couldn't be happier with the $20 I spent on the bulbs and a little time sanding them down.

The way that I did it:
Pull out your stock lows... look at the tabs compared to the "conversions"... one tab is significantly larger than the original...
I just took a nice set of levered wire cutters, and snipped off the extra length.. done!

to do the 9005 conversion what do you have to change / modify on the base of the bulb?

Re: Sylvania Silverstars...blown (DeeSeeToo)
i'm using some NOKYA Artic white bulbs...look pretty close to HID when your looking at it, but i think it doesnt project bright enough or light up the road enough, which is very dangerous!!!! I've always wondered about those coolblue bulbs, but i just thought theyd make my headlights "Blue" like the said...and i dont want blue..i want white that changes to blue/purple from different angles. HID's are out of my league, but i'm thinking about doing the silverstars. I hear its the closest thing to the real deal HID kit. ANyone know where i can pick up a set of these bulbs?

Now, I'm kind of glad that I didn't dump my converted stock 9005 bulbs in favor of Silverstar bulbs.
