Camber kit vs. Alignment
okay i have a 98 integra LS with H&R race springs with the stock shocks (since the car is fairly new the shocks are still good) and i JUST got new wheels and tires and i dont want to fork out 133 bucks per tire every so many miles when they start angeling off on the inside. i was curious as to if i NEED a camber kit? my stock tires have minimal tire ware on the inside. i have been told that if i just get them aligned then i will be fine. thanks
some people seem to get away with dropping their cars a lot, while some don't. Most people will tell you have anything "race" springs will drop your car too much, and negative camber will go crazy on ya. I would get the camber kit if I were you..
i dont understand. first off the race springs really didnt lower it all that much so its not "dumped" it looks just right. and how do i know what to set the camber at?? are camber kits a lot of money???
Do it nice, not rice ! Heh heh.... but seriously.... the difference between needing a camber kit and needing an alignment is in how much did you lower your car ? Lowering your car to as much as 1.2 inches would only result in the negative camber change of 1 degreee or less... an alignment adjustment could easily acocunt for this, not 100% of the tilt, but the majority of it... having a little negative camber will help your performance and handling in the corners, at this height, that will not affect your tire wear that adversely ( you must tell the guy doing the alignment that you want the negative camber adjusted !)
Any lower than 1.2 and you should get a good camber adjustment kit.... I've recently seen kits on sale for under $150 at websites like landspeedracinng and shmotorsports.com
Good luck

First, get an alignment done. That will tell you where you're at as far as camber goes. Without a camber kit, an alignment won't change your camber, but it WILL help if you have any toe in/out troubles which are also nasty on tires. I have 2 deg neg camber and 0.1 deg toe out on all my wheels which is exactly what I want for auto-x. The neg camber was basically the result of dropping almost 2". I've been running my street tires like this for 2 years and I still have plenty of tread left... prob another season, so I personally wouldn't bother with a camber kit (besides it's not legal for my auto-x xlass!

i lowered my integra 2 1/2 and my tires hardly went in.. so my camber wear isn't that bad... i have had the same tires on my car for 15,000miles and they are still looking pretty good. i have the h&r race.. and my car is low as hell

did you just get them aligned tsjag? if not have you looked at the inside of your tires? yea they dont look like the camber is bad but they are really angled in and forward but you cant see it. i am just going to get them aligned and see how it goes. if i start to see some tire ware on the inside then i will look into camber kits
I had Neuspeed Race Springs(2.25 drop) on a 1998 GSR with 205/40/R17. The back tires didn't not have any negative camber (from appreance) The fron had very little I never bought a camber kit and was fine. You should be able to tell by the way it looks. Camber kits aren't to expensive if you need one. Most cars with a reasonable drop will only need them on the front.
PS I have the Neuspeed Race Springs on Ebay if anyone wants them

You should ALWAYS get your car aligned after changing the height by any amount.
I had the equivalent of a 2.25" drop in the front, and I had around -2.5 degrees. And it really didn't look that bad from eyeballing it. With the camber kit, I'm at around -1.0 degree which I consider perfect.
You should probably at least invest in a front kit. Listen to Dustin. Your tires will be gone....I guarantee that any car dropped over 2" is going to have pretty messed up camber that should be corrected at least by a little bit.

I too think you should get a camber kit. Don't get it align until you get the camber kit first. There is no reason for bring it in twice. Also one thing to remember is that not all wheel tire shop will align lowered cars. Because your car is lowered they might not be able to get it up the ramp to get it align. Please call ahead and ask them.
buy the camber kit, shim your rear camber and also purchase a camber kit for that as well, then pay 50 bucks to get the sonbitch aligned, it will be worth it in the long run because I was really depressed my yokohama a520's only lasted my *** 7 months on my car.
these khumos look to be burning down faster than my a520's as well and they have a higher tread wear rating... but they are still shitty khumos hehe.

yea i just got it aligned today and they guy said i should get them. that it is just past the point where it would be iffy. i SHOULD be alright for a while though. he made the corrections as much as he could to counteract for the bad camber.
I would offer my advice, but its everything MaxGSR typed...so I wont repeat what he said. My situation is the exact same. If youre that worried, just monitor the wear closely and frequently rotate your tires....
Also like they say, depending on the readout from the alignment...a good deal over 2deg neg camber and you may be pretty much SOL.

2 DEGREES of neg camber is going to increase your tire wear... even if it doesn't (look bad) Whenever you lower your car, the factory suspension (not the shocks or springs) was designed for the factory ride height.....ANY change will make the addition of a camber kit necessary... Smaller amounts of neg camber may not need to be remedied according to driver taste, but 1.5+ deg of neg camber is getting into the 'alot' stage. And an alignment shop will be able to tell you how much you are off.
When you get your alignment, the shop should give you a printout of your camber/caster and toe in/out. These numbers will tell you if you need to address your camber issue. Toe kills your treadwear, so you want to pay attn to that as well. 2deg neg camber is the universal "now you may want to check it out" number. I have about 2.1 with no problems whatsoever.
