you have to short the pin under the dash... search for timing adjustment, should be some pics. This can be done w/ a paperclip, its also in the helms manual.

yes, if you engine sense a knock caused by advancing your timing it will electrically retard it. but you can trick the ecu to take the advanced timing by jumping the service plug. and then do your timing. then the ecu will think what ever your new time is stock timing

Since you short the ECU to set the timing and its the physical location of the distributor that will be what you use to set the timing i'd say no, unplugging hte battery wont reset timing.

the thing is if you dont short that plug and do timing, then the computer will keep retarding the timing as you advance. Now if you short it, when you advance the time, the ecu will no compensate. thus if you want 18 you get 18.

isnt it good that the ecu resets the timing when it knocks? knocks are bad.

18 degrees wont cause knock. unless you use really shitty gas.

yup, in fact honda specificies that the timming should be between 14 - 18 BTDC. So you are still in spec at 18.

FYI... what you're talking about is base timing. i.e. at idle and fully warmed up. The computer will adjust actual timing depending on engine load, throttle position, and a bunch of other things.

meaning hte computer is alot smarter than we are and makes decisions regarding fuel and timing much better than we do.

Set it to 18 and forget it.
