Default checking your timing.....

alrighty, i read the helms manual on how to check the timing, and it says you have to connect some kind of service connector... WTF is up with that, maybe i don't actually have to do that and i am just reading this damn book wrong, anyone got any thoughts?

You can not adjust the timing on a H22A4 since it is controlled by the ECU. You can still check the timing with a timing light or through an OBDII scan tool but the only thing you can do if it is wrong is change the ECU.

There's another connector down by the timing belt side...I believe it's some sort of crank angle sensor, which won't allow timing adjustments.

You need to convert to OBD-I distributor/ECU to be able to adjust the timing.

When you jump the service connector it locks the timing so you can check it against the indicator on the flywheel. Otherwise the timing is variable and you have no idea what you're checking against.
