Default how much to mill head?

alright i know ive been a total post ***** lately with all the ls/vtec questions, but i got to try n get answers somehzow.....

so anyways, i have no idea how much to mill the head safely to go onto ls block....i mean since there arent any thinner ls head gaskets, its the only way to get it done right?

but with p30s, currently ctr cams, how low can they go? if nobody has answers, maybe they knows somebody to call n ask?? appreciate the help, peace.

to be honest dude, if you are building an ls/vtec don't mill the head because you will already have to pull apart the block. You might as well get b16 pistons when pulling the block apart. If you are not going to pull the block apart to balance, new bearings, and rod bolts, then don't even bother building an ls/vtec imo.

Sorry if this came off as a jerk comment, but in the end I'm just trying to look out so you don't cheap out and blow your motor. There are ways to go cheap style but still do it right, its called budget style.

If you insist on milling the head i would'nt go over 30 thousanths and I would personally clay the motor also.

nah dude not at all, i mean i dont know much about ls/vtecs cause im jus gettin in to them, but i know u cant jew together a motor and expect big gains.

as of now i got a ls block on the way with polished crank, w/p30 pistons, eagle rods, arp bolts, vtec pumps, etc, really just need to know about some of the other ****. its not the money thats an issue, dont get me wrong id like to save a few bills where i can, but id like a lot more to have a bad *** set up.....

so feel free to keep the jerk comments flowing...

I am not a huge fan of milling a head decking a block, thinner head gaskets, etc.... I would just resurface it. If you must though I would agree .030 is the most I would go personally. There are some that have gone further. Just make sure the machinest is top notch so everything seals properly.

a friend of mine ran a p30 piston lsvtec with his head milled 65,000ths. ran perfect for over a year before he sold the whole car.

had to mix some 100 octane in with his 91 to get it not to ping. cuase thats a bit over 12-1 compression.

if i were you just stick with the pistons you have and no mill, thats gonna set you about 11-5-1 and perfect for pump gas.

you can get the mugen or spoon gaskets to fit the LS block, its only the dowel pins that are barely a different size. they are a bit smaller on the gasket and can be opened up easily.

oh if its only the pins need to be enlarged than thats not too bad.

my goal is to try and get 200whp from this set up, without having to spray. is that possible from p30s and not milling the head?

.030 will be fine. .010 isnt really worth it

edit: my setup that i told u about in the other post was with a shorter stroke gsr crank. if u milled the head .030 and used ctr pistons, your CR would be about 12.2:1. sounds like u dont even need to mill the head if u use ctr pistons

my biggest concern is the pistons mashing the valves, but you guys ran ctrs with it milled .030 fine so im leaning towards doing that if it'll leave room for steeper cams later on.....what can i say im power hungry.....
