Default Need an appraisal within 60 minutes, help???

I'm going to look at a 1991 Civic hatchback with 150k miles in about an hour. Clean title, and original owner!

He says it "runs absolutely perfect, everything on the car works like new, but the body has some parts that could use touching up (paint-wise), some tiny dime size rust spots here and there."

He's asking $1,500 for the car, and assuming my assessment of the car matches, what do you think I should offer? He said he is "open to negotiations." I was thinking $1,000 even, but is that offensive?

Thanks! Hope to be joining this forum soon.

I checked all the online sites I know, and these are the figures I came up with:

Kelly Blue Book: $1,770
Edmunds: $498-$1,100
Nada: $1,600-$2,300

Needless to say, the price range is quite wide, and I don't really care for what the internet or car dealerships have to say. Seems like he came up with $1,500 based on these types of appraisals.

I'd like to know what real Civic owners/drivers think?

real civic owners/drivers think whatever Kelly's Blue Book or Edmunds thinks the price is.

First off, is it an Si/DX/STD? Is it a manual? Has it been modified?

Its not always the blue book standard that determines the value of any car. Find out the model, and mods if any and check back. if its an si, then for the minor **** you need to fix, your set...be done with it. if its a dx, then think less power (unless you swap), no sunroof, and minus the nice blk/gry interior. With a price quote liek that I wouild assume its no si, but every now and then you get lucky. If you can live without the sunroof, and youre favorite color is blue, then 1500 for even a dx maybe worth it...but if its an si...I say go for it. if you feel bad offering 1000 then go 1250 and say thats the most u can offer...good luck
