Default L3 Tranny specs

I recently got a good deal on a D16A1 motor and tranny (CG) from an 88/9 Integra. To make a long story short, I got another tranny in the deal. It's an L3 coded tranny. What did the L3 Tranny come from? Civic HF model? Any idea of the gear ratios?

I searched, but that thread didn't catch my eye. Thanks.... I need to get home now and check them out. I sorta hoped there might be an online reference somewhere.

This could give a little insight into transmission origination. Not much, but it might answer some questions.

Here's a site that helped me a lot when I was trying to find a new tranny for my D series. Its pretty informative.

http://thenew.gamesbbs.com/~dmoore/tranny.htm

Count the number of splines on the input shaft and that will tell you a lot. There was another thread on here somewhere that had a link on how to identify if the tranny was an Si or not. If it has the same mount positions as your D16A1, then thats the only thing it could be. All D series trannies have the same mounts except for the A1. If its not the A1, let me know if you want to sell it.

Well, actually the L3 is bolted onto the D16A1. The CG was not connected because they said it wouldn't bolt up. Doesn't make sense to me, and I haven't had time to try to remove the L3.

If it's an L3 bolted to the D16A1 and nobody has done anything crazy like put a CRX clutch/flywheel on there then I guess it's an '88 CRX tranny since it would have to have 21 splines in order to match the D16A1 clutch. According to that list anyway. BTW nice little list, thanks!

After removing the tranny from the motor, I realized where one bolt did not line up between the two as well as the lower starter bolt.

I counted the revolution ratios between the main shaft and differential to estimate gear ratios. Comparing the list to what I had in my hands, this tranny must have come from an 89 Civic/CRX DX. It's got a stamp that shows PL3 over A000.

Evidently the guy I got this from had put an '89 Civic transmission onto a 1st gen Integra motor by using the clutch plate from the Civic. He told me that the reason for halting the swap into his CRX was due to factory motor mounts not fitting. I guess missing one motor/tranny bolt and one starter bolt didn't bother him.

That is a pretty good link to figure out what type of L3 you have. Hope everything goes well for you.
