Default need some advice on my tranny setup

well after a long hard debate, i've decided to go from auto to manual, mostly because i can run Hondata and have more of a future with the car. Anyways...

I kno how to drive stick, and i drive my car daily with some, weekend drag time
I was thinkin this for set up:

LS Tranny
Centerforce Dual Friction
Centerforce Lightend flywheel

any other recommendations ?

I would personally take a gsr tranny becuse of the shorter gearing and get a act flywheel just because its cheaper and will do the same thing as the centerforce.

There is a post on this page or on page two about ls motors and gsr transmissions if you would like to read about it.... Also it makes more sence just buying the gsr sence your not switching from a manual to manual.

my 0.2 cents

from what ive seen so far, an ls tranny is best for boost. its longer gears makes it more streetable

stay over ten pounds with the lightend fly wheel, under boost you will just spin the tires(more so then stock) and it'll die quick. lightend fly wheels are good for na or super charged but not turbo(unless its full race)

avtually there is no difinitve answer of which one is better, granted a few more peeps are using gsr trannys, but no one is for sure about which one is

"DIRepTail,

I can tell u alot changed between my 13.0 and 12.8 runs.

on the 13.0 I wieghed 2750, was running 13.2 psi of boost, tuned on Vaportrails map, LS tranny, Revhard kit w/ garret 57 trim and it was about 40degrees that night @ the track. went 13.089 @ 109.99 w/ a mid 2.0 60'

on the 12.8 I wieghed 2615, was running 11.8 psi of boost, tuned on my street map(lost vaportrails map ), GSR tranny, Full-Race manifold w/ precision SC34(57trim) and it was about 90 degrees @ the track. went 12.89 @ 109.3 w/ a low 2.0 60'

I really can't vouch that the GSR tranny is what did the trick, but I will tell you from the butt-dyno that I would do it all over again. the boost was probably cancelled out w/ the wieght, and the manifold was prolly cancelled out w/ the temp's so that only leaves one thing left."

2 tenths off with a much better turbo(even at 12psi i bet he was making more power) + a full race manifold. and he had a lower trap speed with the gsr, put the ls tranny on here and i bet there well be a lower time

Okay, I posted this before,
2 hatches with stock LS motors, same weight, same driver skills, same tire size everythign is exactly indentical EXCEPT one had LS tranny, one has GS-R tranny.

Which one do you think will win ?

Shorter gearing will place you in the utmost powerband in comparison to longer gearing. The whole longer gear is better for boost so you can run boost longer is gone. Boost will fall out of curve as of any power, and the only way you can keep it up is to prevent your motor to fall out of power curve by having a shorter gearing. This goes on street or race car. I raced LS before, and yeah, they had me at first, but never longer than split second.

Anyway to answer the guy's questions,

GS-R tranny, Stock Flywheel, any clutch you prefer, action, clutchmaster, ACT and etc. those are what I'd recommend.

I have GS-R tranny, LIghtened GS-R flywheel (shaved 3-4 lbs) and Clutchmaster Stage 5 ( 3 puck solid race disc) and I loved it.

Just keep the stock flywheels, dont mess with stuff you dont have to.
I would go with gsr tranny act street disc/XPP, stock flywheel.

And to answer your ? there is no answer to this question it varies from setup to setup. Some poeple like the itr/b16 tranny short gears, accelerate quickly, others like ls long gears, highway racing, others like the gsr tranny because its a compromise of both, it acellerates quickly, keeps you in boost good choice IMO.

Instead of the flywheel put that $ towards a LSD.
