Can a noob install a 4 channel amp??
I just got my kicker kx 600.4 and am debating if I should just try to install the dam thing myself. I have a 4 guage kit and I know that red obviously connects to the battery...black to a chassis ground and yellow is my remote. The rca's are what confuse me, do I need to take the headunit off(Alpine 7894) to access the rca's? Are there any websites that go step by step with pictures how to install everything? My car is a 97 Civic with MB Quart QSD 6.5 in doors and Alpine Type-R 6x9's in back

you could do it yourself but it is risky!
you need to take out the radio and plug in the rca's and run a remote wire (ussually blue) to the amp as well
then run the power wire, ground wire and remote wire to the amp, speaker wire as well and turn down all the gains
turn up gradually but be careful..
tell you the truth, you can make ALOT of mistakes that can be FATAL!
just do what i do, make sure you have installer friends!

very simple bro, no matter what you'll need to take the headunit out, what you're gonna do is, cut all 4 speakers from the wiring harness to the radio harness, run 4 new sets of speaker wire to the amp, you'll need your headunit out to access the rca inputs on your headunit anyway, and you'll hook your yellow remote wire to the blue with a white stripe on the alpine harness, that's pretty much all you need to know, and i dont really think a 4 guage kit was necassary for that amp, but hey, better safe than sorry, let me know if you need help taking the head unit out
its not that bad..I just finished re-wiring my entire car with larger gauge wire....worst friggin part is having to drill the plugs in the front doors to be able to run the speaker wires for the front components!!! took almost 2hrs the first door..I ran into lots of problems...second was a breeze
no if I can just get rid of this stupid engine noise in my speakers I'll be happy

rca's are on the opposite side as the power wire
I used my seat belt bolt from the back seat as the ground point....sanded all the paint off the area...so I am thinking I may have too long of a ground so I will be moving it

It's not too bad, just time consuming. I spent about 7 hours (first time) doing mine so I could it the right way and hide everything. I did a "how-to" on the install of my del Sol that may also give you an idea.
Crutchfield has some good information.

Measure impedance vs. the negative post on the battery and that point in the car. I think you will find it rather high.

Hmm, spare-wells are usually rusted out a bit.
Try a bit higher up on one of the sides of the trunk ( behind a plastic panel, if possible), where there may be less chance of rust.
To find the best spot, use your DMM to find the lowest impedance spot, back there.

whatever you do, take your time, and make sure you don't have engagements that day/weekend you choose to do it.
A 4 chan amp install takes time - especially if your running new speaker wire.
It'll be worth it in the end
Here's to self installs

Exactly. I started a Friday evening, worked until about 2 in the morning, and then worked the next dayfor 3 or 4 hours. It took a long time, but it was my first amp install and I wanted it done right.
Patience is a virtue when installing an amp.

the best way to ground your amp is to find a close ground that is already there (check around tail lights or other electronics), and if you cant find one make one. I had to drill a small hole in the wheel well of my hatch and use a screw and some washers. also make sure you have plenty of grounds to your body to make sure the negitave (-) power can flow back to the battery just as fast as the positave (+) is leaving for better sound
