I can get a Brand new D16a7 engine never started for $450 from honda. My friend say's this is the best way to go about building a new engine for myself he say's even if I build my old engine up I will end up spending close to or if not as much, but without having every thing new like the crank, valve seals etc.

What do you guy's think? My mechanic say's $450 will go a long way to refreshening/rebuilding my existing engine.. BUT my mechanic also has said I can overbore my stock sleeves by .5mm and still use a standard headgasket?? Is that right?? I am going to run JE's and Eagles rods ARP headstuds looking for max of 300whp on race gas.

mind as well spend the money on sleeving your motor you have now, Buying a new motor is not the way to go.

and yes, you can use a standard headgasket if you over bore by .5 mm

What do you think about the stock sleeves .55mm over bored holding together under the extremes of boost? I am looking for 300whp max. Around 200whp daily...

correct, just slap the gasket on and go

Stock sleeves are iffy man, I had the same setup you had and cracked a sleeve at 15 lbs with AEM EMS tuning by jotech.

I guess I was unlucky, I always tell people I hear building a turbo motor to sleeve it asap, it hands down the best pice of mind you can buy.

I obviously HAD to sleeve but I wish I had done it in the first place and not have had to pull the motor to sleeve it.

save the money for sleeves man, trust me you sound exactly like me when I started my build

 

even at 300 whp you can crack a sleeve, **** you can do it at 200 whp

some say its all in the tuning and some even make 400 + hp on stock sleeve, they are the lucky ones but they don't last forever.

also, if you do crack a sleeve, you'll most likely have to buy a new piston as did I.

You'll hear this alot, do it right the first time or pay *** loads more correcting it later.

The big problem I have is I am in New Zealand so I can't be shipping my block across the earth shipping costs plus $950 for GE sleeves will cripple me. When you cracked the sleeve did you just HAVE to replace the piston? obviously I would need another block and a rebore but that would still work out cheaper for me I think if worst came to worst. I suppose I could reuse the oil and water pump ....

 

there are plenty aftermarket sleeves out there not just GE
why not just buy darton or RS sleeves and get ur local machine shops to put them in for you ?
