D15 bottom VTEC head
I'm thinking of bolting a d16z6 head from a 93 del slo to a d15 88 crx. I'm wondering will there be any problems with clearance? And what will the compression ratio be? The bottom has already been decked and has 10.5:1 je pistons. Any advice?
it would be a much better combination if you went with a d16y8 head instead. It has a more aggresive cam and all the ports are bigger, also you compression and stroke will be great for over 8000 rpm revs....safely! Ever heard for the JDM D15B ??? Expect 130 at the flywheel! Also, hyperducktuning.com has an ecu program just for that engine! Check it out
I'm doing the d16z6 because I have that head already left over from a b16 del sol swap. the block is bored 20 over too. I hope it works....I would drive this car forever. Im not sure if I should go with the obd 1 p28 that goes with the head and a wiring swap or something more custom. is there a non obd to obd1 adapter? the del sol wiring is probably going to be the way to go considering the car has dx throttle body injection right now still anyways with only the dual injectors.
damn thats a lot of work on the block. your still running DPFI? hows the power gains. i bet you would see a lot more if you switched to mpfi. thatll go with the vtec head but itll me more work. mainly im interested if youve ever went to the dyno or the track with that setup. what times did you run.

for 91cvicLX, so you got a MPFI converted D15 and ur going to put a VTec head on. Is that gonna be even close to CA smog legal? because i thought u couldnt have mismatched parts. Im also wondering if that same motor setup would be able to rev up to 8k rpm safely on all the stock internals? I dont see how that could be since neither the D16y8 or the D15b2 can rev close to that. Im not callin nobody, im actually curious about this because i have a D15b2 in my CRX, unfortuantely, and would like to go with this same setup.
in theory it should be smog legal because i will convert to obd1. and obd1 doesnt have any extra smog equipment. the main problem will be the MPFI injection since my LX came with DPFI. also the rev limit on the p28 i believe is a little below 8k. right now i am reving my d15b2 to 7200 with not complaints.
4Fifths, i am still interested in your numbers. send me a pm
PS: i never said i could rev to 8000 that was someone else. and the JDM D15 makes 130ps not horsepower.

ok heres the deal...first off, what exactly do you think PS is??? I know that some list as PS however most list as HP. I not getting hot, but I personally know that the JDM d15b is rated at 130...I have one and it is slightly stronger than my d16a6. As far as the revs go your right, the standard setup ecu is cut off at 7200, but the engine can safely rev to OVER 8000 rpm. They say you can use a d15b2 lower end and a d16y8 top and create the some combination, however I am not 100% sure is there's any difference between the JDM lower end and the d15b2 lower end. I do know that the stroke on that combo is perfect for extended high revs. For that matter you can buy the JDM d15b for under 500 so for that reason you really can't go wrong.
