Default D16Z6 head on D15B7

Local sale, someone is selling a D16z6 head for $100. Just curious if that head flows better than the D15B7 head. Is it worth my time to get all the work done? Drilling lines for oil and such? Anybody have a flow chart or whatever it is they use to test heads with? SOHC vtec doesn't do ****, but if the head flows better then maybe I should pick one up.

Another concern is, will it raise my compression too much? I'm running 4 psi via a jrsc, and plan to go to 8 psi. Will this cause detonation issues?

What do yall think?

wtf are you talking about? you drill nothing and run NO oil lines for a mini-me setup, the head bolts on and works like it was ment to be there. you use a VX timing belt for the z6 head on a 1.5. and YES the Z6 head flows better, it has bigger valves and a larger cam (vtec).

the only thing that you will have to run is wires for vtec and use a vtec ecu (p28). your compression will remain the same. good luck!

I was misinformed! I was told the head would raise compression, I called BS on it but a couple people backed it up. I was told it'll make 127-140 hp, which I also called BS on. Hmm, so is it even worth doing the mini-me? Anybody here have one with a dyno to back it up?

thanks

well the bigger valves will aid in flow as your boost goes up, and the Z6 head does have more lift that your B7 head even with a A6 cam in it.

but yeah, you can finish a milk shake with a coffee stir staw, but it won't be worth it! get the Z6 head

Can I simply bolt the Z6 head on and not wire the vtec or use the EX ecu? Temporary of course. I'm boostin on a budget

u have to wire the solenoid, and use the ex ecu( i think u can rewire the dx ecu).

We need Spade in here on this one.

What I've heard from my shop..........A D16Z6 head will fit on a D15B7, but I do believe you need to have oil lines added. The SOHC VTEC block is way different than a non-VTEC block. The D15Z1 would be the best block to swap a D16Z6 head on to, cause it already has VTEC.

You will have a higher compression and horsepower in the end.

Keep search though. Some shops I asked about mini-me swaps won't even touch them. Don't know why.

no oil lines needed. u can wire up an rpm activated switch to engage vtec if u wanna go that route. or get an ecu or vtec controller.

Thats wrong dude I was using the same head on my DX block without the p28 ecu cause the p28 i had was chipped for a H22A (future mod) i was using the MSD RPM Activator switch and yes i had to use the VX Timing belt
