Default ITR 3rd gear grind and slave cylinder noise question...

Two things... first, am I the only one who "grinds" the gears when I go from 2nd to 3rd on a fast sprint ?? It doesn't happen during normal driving, just when I am accelerating hard.. Is there a fix to this problem ??

Second, I've read a million threads about the squeaking slave clutch cylinder issue. Yes, I know that the recommended fix is to lube the sucker up but the problem comes right back after a couple of days. Can't I just replace the whole slave cylinder and fix the problem permanently ?? What kind of damage can I expect after prolongued use of the car with the squeaky slave clutch cyl ??

Thanks for the help.

Well, the car is still under warranty. Maybe I should talk to the dealer about the problem.

That is a perfect example of what happens to my eg with an h22a. Under normal driving it is all good. But if I am sprinting it it will grind in 3rd with the clutch completely pressed. I will try the gm syncro mesh tranny fluid and see if it stops the problem.

Well, I'd still like to shoot the dealer !!! hehe !!

Its just that I know they are going to give me a hard time when I tell them that the problem only happens when I floor it and quick-shift from 2nd to 3rd ... I can already hear the old story about how warranty doesn't cover "race" situations ... Any suggestions as to how I might handle this ??

What kind of grease are you using? I would suggest some high temp stuff. I doubt replacing the slave would cure the problem. Just lube it. It's seriously so easy to do.

so whats the point of rev'ing a motor to 8k... ask them why the redline is at 8600. Basicly dealers are lazy. Make sure your ITR is as stock looking as possible.

Just say during spirited driving, like getting on a freeway onramp, shifting from 2nd to 3rd always grinds.

You bitch enough at a dealer you get what you want.

Well the ITR has been to the dealer a few times and evertime they re-lube the slave cyl it just comes right back after a couple of days. I figure that, since not all 2001 Integras have the problem, then maybe I just got a bad slave cyl... Yeah, I know, but I'm just thinking out loud.

For those who had the "3rd gear grind" problem diagnosed and fixed, can you please say what it was ?? It would really help. Thanks !!

My car did the 2-3 grind the first time I tracked it. I changed the tranny fluid not long after, and have done it two times since then. The problem has not come back at all, and I track my car much harder than I used to.

Guys,

I had the exact same problem, changing from 2nd gear to 3rd gear in VTEC would crunch like i wasnt using the clutch.....I told Honda during a service and when i picked it up, they said "we couldnt duplicate the problem", and complained and said that I hadnt asked them to duplicate it but to fix it.......They booked me in for a week later to come in very early and take the mechanic for a drive to show it to him.....well we hopped in the car, went 100mtrs and i wasnt even in vtec and 2nd to 3rd crunched, he just smiled and said "i know exactly what the problem is"....

They ordered the parts and a week later they rebuilt my gearbox......(they did say it was a mess inside.....it was all fixed without any issues, and they looked after me really well.........

they did ask me if i drive the car hard, I just said yes, but within it's limits......always changing under 'redline', i never spin the wheels, i always use the clutch, and the only track drives i have ever done were with the honda club and were sponsored by honda (so were covered.....)
