How can I keep the 4 bolts that hold the turbo to the manifold from backing out. I have lock washers and one will still back out ever 1000 miles.

 

Try hitting the top of each bolt with a tack-weld. Or use locktight (sp?)

 

We tack welded all of them and one still came out. The only thing I can think of is saftey wiring them.

 

take the turbine housing off the whoel turbo and install the turbine housing by itslef first, then install the rest of the cartridge and the compressor houing. This way you can use a socket and torqued them down really good, instead of barely getting enough room for a wrench

Try the locktight then, it's funny you asked, mine keep coming out too, I just put on the red locktight lastnight. Time will tell!

 

Instead of bolts, use studs, you will not have that problem. Same concept goes why people use arp studs in a head/block surface.

Yeh id say use studs w/ loctite and lockwashers. Like stan said, install the exhaust housing by itself on the manifold that way u can get it really tight.

Are ur downpipe bolts coming loose too? The best thing u can do is make a brace for the downpipe to the motor. Especially on a car like urs making so much power, I bet ur motor torques a lot. ur flex pipe probably can't relieve enough stress it has to go somewhere, it goes to the downpipe bolts and then to the manifold bolts. Or just get a v-band! woohoo I love mine

 

Locktite will not work, it'll get too hot and be burned off, happened to me. Paul

 

I had the same problem but mine would back out about every 200 miles....I put them studs in and they dont back out no more

 

My downpipe bolts are never the problem its always the rear left bolt on the turbo. If it was anyother one I could just put it back in, but I have to take the turbo off and clock it to get this one back in.

 

When mine was first installed, my downpipe bolts all fell out and turbo bolts fell out as well, a couple of mani to head nuts fell off too. Since then I've retightened the mani to head nuts and they are holding up so far.
I studded and use loctite on the downpipe and its holding up as well so far. The turbo bolts I'd wired them but they still work loose and start to leak as a result even though they wont fall out as they're wired, so I've studded them recently and I use the big brass nuts and spring washers (to soak up the vibrations) on the studs and they still work loose. Then tried double nutting them still no joy... Now I'm trying to get some special lock nuts with cuts in them (looks quite funky, like nuthin I'd seen before) which they use in motorsports and will also use some high temp loctite and see how that goes. Hopefully things falling off under the hood will be a thing of the past

 

instead of loctite which is that cyano-acrylic stuff, use high-temp RTV, works similarly..
