ever since I built my ls/vtec I've been getting this problem. air is getting sucked in thru the breather on the valve cover. The car runs fine and I've done compression tests and what not. Why is it doing that? PCV system is hooked up and everything. the setup is ctr pistons and type r cams.

on the inlet to the valve cover. its sucking air into the valve cover instead of blowing it into the air intake. the way the arrow is pointing is the way air is getting sucked in. its not sucking in much but none the less it should be blowing and not sucking.

What is the problem? If your PCV system is hooked up, there should be vacuum present in the crankcase (and the valve cover) at idle. When you are in the throttle, and manifold vacuum is low, the high speed air going through the intake is supposed to draw excess crankcase pressure (and blow-by gasses) through the valve cover, from the very port that you have circled in the picture. The blow-by is routed to the intake manifold for burning in the combustion chamber.
