you put it on your valve cover to vent pressure.
its used in conjunction with PCV system modifications.

Re: HELP.....12mm Air Breather Valve Cover Filter. (italiano23q)
You attach it to the valve cover so that the crankcase gases vent into the atmosphere instead of being recirculated into the intake. In my opinion, they are completely worthless unless you are running a turbo setup (in which case the boost from the turbocharger would leak back into the crankcase and cause huge problems) or if you're running a catchcan setup and you need to vent the gases going into the catchcan. I'm sure both of those explanations are completely out of your realm of understanding, so the best use for you would be to put it on your nose and pretend you have a K&N intake breathing apparatus.

Re: (turbotime)
The valve cover "breather" has nothing do to with the PCV system!!! Yes it deals with crankcase gas emissions, but its got nothing to do with the PCV valve/charcoal canister below the IM.

Sure it does, it lets in fresh filtered air for when the pcv valve is operating.

I retract my statement then.
