Can extreme motor heat evaporate engine fluids?
hey whats up guys.
I was driving down I-81 down to virginia tech. I have a 93 integra ls with almost 170,000 miles. Its in pretty good shape, a strange sounding idle and the honda shake non-withstanding.
So i'm going down 81 on a four hour road trip, cruise control on at 72 mph. Around the third hour I notice my engine heat gauge and the needle is on "H" or the red line. I turn on the heaters full blast and the heat was so hot, it felt like it could cook ann egg. I pull of on the next exit and had a very hard time stopping. It seemed as if the heat either softened my brakes (dont think so) or made the rubber of the tire real sticky. Also smoke was coming from the tire/brake area but not from the engine.
Now I noticed all my engine fluids, from power steering to windshield wipers were all gone! Almostly totally empty! Could this have happened from the engine heat, and whatever other problems could it have caused?
Would it be cheaper for me to go to a mechanic and get him to fill it up from his stock or buy bottles of the fluids that I would never use again./
Thanks
