Default d15 staying cold

i have a 1995 del sol s model with its stock engine... lately i have noticed that my engine will never get past half way mark for how hot the engine is, and it seems like the harder i push it, the colder it stays... like sat night i did 4 all out runs to about 100mph each, then stopped popped the hood and was able to keep my hand on the block without even burning my hand... if i drive at 60+ mph my engine never gets past the second line just above the C... but then i will let it idle and it will get to about the half way mark, just from sitting for about 5 min (maybe less or more)

could that be a bad thing (or anything i should check or worry about) that my engine never really heats up/gets to hot?

i know this sounds like a stupid question i just wanted to see if it was just my s model or if that engine tends to stay extremly cold

Your thermostat is probably stuck open. Just replace it and it should heat up to the proper temp.

mine is always either 1/3 (while moving) of the way or 1/2 at most (at idle). one time i forgot to put in coolant and it almost overheated. it's normal... wouldn't worry about unless i am completely wrong. lately it's been cold in california and i have alot of **** missing from my bay so my engine gets to breath real nice.

Wrong.. Your engine should not be anywhere near the Cold mark when it's warmed up. It should be between the 1/3 and 1/2 mark. If it is still at the cold mark or right around the cold mark, something is wrong.

I would start with the thermostat as well.

Honda civics take a while to heat up. You should first feel hot air coming from your vents as you drive. This will take a few minutes. Next, your temp needle should approach the 1/2 way mark. When your needle starts rising, your thermostat is opening allowing coolant to flow to the rad. You'll screw your engine up if it's not allowed to operate at the correct temp.

yea, im not sure if my radiator runs without me driving... cuz whenever i have it on at the half way mark or not, i never see the blades spinning... but yea ive only seen my temp go up to half when letting it sit for a good 5 min after driving it... and then it immediatly goes back down when i start driving

grab the upper hose on your radiator. squeeze it. is there resistance or does it flow into the block freely? if its free then you have no thermostat.

it gets hotter just ideling because the fan cant pull as much air through the radiator your car is cooler when your going 100 mph because that much more air is flowing through the radiator
