B16 or LS B18 into CRX
Now im thinkin about a swap in the future, so im wondering whether i should try and find a USDM b16, so it could be smogged, or swapping in a B18b, cuz of the torque ya know. Im thinkin LS because it would be so much cheaper, because the US b16's ive seen are really expensive. I wanna hear your guys thoughts, and what prices youve guys seen on each.
GO with the ls motor. I ran a 14.5 witha a bone stock ls in my hf crx. With a a turbo kit untuned I made 235 and ran a 12.1 on slicks, ls motor are cheap fun and reliable.
i was going to do ls awhile back but i ended up saving more money then i thought and was able to afford a b16 swap so i just went with that and i am very pleased with it...im going to the track tommorow....but i rip my friends type r who ran a 14.4 and my friends coupe with a ls swap that runs 14.6 so i am very happy....cant wait to see what i run....BTW i only have a old ractive intake filter and 2.25 exhaust stock exhaust manifold stock clutch with regular tires with deacent tread.

Did that transmission have a shorter final drive or different gear ratios? Or was it perhaps a 1992-1993 USDM GSR YS1? It must have. Because I have NEVER been able to go through all the gears with my 1993 USDM LS YS1. With that particular transmission, the shift into fourth comes just shortly before the end of a quarter mile (~990-1000ft). And on the freeway, it runs not much above 3000RPM at 70MPH in fifth gear. A GSR YS1 would certainly explain running 14.5 with a stock LS. Because a B18A/B18B is just not that fast stock with an LS transmission.

Both me and my fiends swap came with the same transmission. I am almost positive its the original tranny. I only used 4th gear in the quarter when I was n/a . It wasnt until I went turbo that I had to use 5th. 92-93 ls came with a ys1.
back in the day when i had a ys1 LS tranny i'd be barely shifting to 4th at the end of the 1/4 mile. what RPM you shifting at anyway?
I would shift as high as the ecu would let me which is like 6800 on a stock ls ecu (obd0). I was well into 4th n/a @ 94 mph when I crossed the traps.
