Trying to paint my exhaust manifold heatshield - any advice - thanks
I want to paint my exhaust manifold heat shield. Has anyone done this or have any advice in doing so?
Thanks
Thanks
Sand it down and use high temp paint. Bar-b-que paint works fine.
Do a search on manifold painting, high temp paint, or anything else that applies to the topic, you'll come up with a lot

i sanded the crap outta mine with a wire brush, got rid of 95% of the rust and what not, painted it silver with high temp paint, and its now burnt to a golden color where it gets real hot...if ur gonna paint do it black, guess thats what i get for being ricey...
**** sanding it, no point
Buy some airlcraft coating stripper spray....
spray it, hose it down and remove any loose stuff.
Find some high temp black BBQ paint and paint it.
Not a close pic, but thats what mine looks like painted.

I didtn bother with aircraft stripper or sanding.
I took a wire brush and brushed all the debris.
Then i took paint thinner and wiped it down clean.
flat black High temp paint was applied in two thin coats. Viola.
the whole process probably took an hour and a half.

Good Luck

looks good.
However, I'll use ronco's favorite one liner
all i had to do was
"set it and forget it"
Spray the stripper, let it sit for about 30 minutes.
Wash off, and apply about 2-3 coats of paint.
Total work time: about 5 minutes
Total Project time: about an hour with drying.

I don't think sanding or stripping is really necessary depending on the starting condition of the sheild. I also used krylon bbq paint, made a huge difference of how my engine bay looks
