Default Painting a heat shield - Caliper paint okay?

I picked up a decent heat shield for my DB15B7 at the junkyard today, as mine is more or less rusting into pieces. I'm thinking about sanding the new one and painting it. Would caliper paint be the paint of choice for something that gets this hot? Or would something else work better? Also, primer or no primer?

heat shield like on the exhaust manifold? or under the vehicle near the exhaust.

you need bbq grill high heat paint... not caliper paint. Your calipers get no where near heat shield hot. (Depending on heat shield location tho) Caliper paint is rated up to 500 deg F. I wouldn't trust it. BBQ grill high heat or fireplace paint...goes to 1000 deg F.

Go to lowes/HD...they have HIGH HEAT spray paint...its 5-6/can. You need that.

Covering the manifold. And thanks for the heads up! I'll check out the grill paint!

oh covering the mani....you might want to try the 1500 deg paint they got at auto stores...

look for any paint that is high temp, and has ceramic in it...

lot of heat under the hood. I dont think even the 1000 deg paint would hold up near the exhaust mani...that thing gets HOTT

guess it depends on your driving habits/location. If you live in Key west and drive 6 hours a day, youll need the 1500 Deg paint
if you live in canada and drive 20 mins to work and back....you should be fine with the grill paint.

I'll probably just get the 1500* stuff. I'd rather it last quite a while. I live in Chicago and drive maybe 2 hours a day. Now to figure out what color I want lol

Lol wow, that's fast! I'll probably just end up getting basic black or silver 1500 (or higher if i can find it). My car is black, so I don't really want anything neon green or whatever. Basically, I just want to protect it from further rust as much as possible. I might just end up getting 2000 degree rated primer and calling it a day.
