Type R briefly mentioned in NY Times
I was reading the NY Times today and came across an article in the National Report Section titled, "Drag Racing 21st-Century Style...Youthful Thrill is Showier and Costlier and Deadly as Ever."
It basically went into the origins of drag racing from the 30s Ford roadsters to the muscle cars to the cars of today. As for the quote with the Type R:
"Major automobile makers market high performance turbocharged sedans, such as the Integra Type R and Subaru WRX, that can do a 12 second quarter mile en route to the supermarket...."
How inaccurate...

damn i want to do a 12 sec quarter in my R how come i run 15. flat???? what kind of R or WRX were they using lol usual spinn doctoring to make the story sound better. but based usually on no facts
hey, my friend and i were interviewd for that article. newman shiue is my buddy, that's his supercharged gsr pictured right there, where he's leaning over his engine bay. the lady that interviewed us was dumb as a door ****, didnt know an engine from an exhaust. anyways, he took herup to the street races in sylmar the next night. that's where she got all the info for the street races.
too bad she didnt use the picture where my R and the other cars were in it

This is the letter I wrote those fools:
Once again a piece in your Automobiles section purports wildly inaccurate facts as truth. In Patricia Leigh Brown's piece "Drag Racing 21st-Century Style" she asserts that both the Acura Integra type R and the Subaru WRX are sedans that have turbochargers and can complete a standing quarter mile in 12 seconds. Since I happen to have both of these vehicles in my family, I would be delighted if ANY of these facts were true, but they are not. While the WRX is a sedan, the Integra type R is a coupe. The WRX has a turbo, but the Acura does not. And finally, if either of these cars was ever to complete the standing quarter miles in 12 seconds, it would surely be its last quarter mile because it would be falling off of a cliff. The fastest production cars sold in the US can barely go that fast under their own power, and both the WRX and the type R post respectable times in the 14-second range.

figment: They are totally different cars. The WRX handles terribly compared to the type R. It has crazy turbo lag, but once it spools up, it is a little faster than the R. And the WRX is WAY more refined and quiet. Even at redline at WOT you barely hear it. I have been driving the WRX for the last couple weeks because I went on a road trip (cruise control, quiet, and a 6-disk changer are nice on the highway) but I can't wait to get my baby back!

Since when did the US-spec version Type R come in sedan format? I know that Japan has the Type R sedan. Those are rarer though, so it must be a collector's item!
