Default Foglight install.

Hey i just bought a pair of foglights for my 92 Si! (words can not describe my excitement)
I'm curious;
1) It has ionized coating on it..is it removable?
2) The only instructions i found on it were from honda automotive parts.com
--problem is, i dont have that version of the console (i have a 92) so, where is the oem mounting point? anyone have a writeup?
3) Other than the mounting position of the switch- can i just follow the rest of the factory instructions or will things be different between my 92 and the example's 94?

thanks for the help guys.

edit:: and here is a picture of them.

yeah i've heard good and bad about the out put on the oem fogs. Were they better in japan or both the same (except for yellow/clear lens)? Maybe the ionized blue covering will make it better?

Output on my OEM USDM fogs is awesome!

The mounting point for the 92-93s was in the drivers side tweeter cover. The tweeter cover is a very rare piece to find and the switch might be too. From the pics it looks like you have the 94+ switch, so youre just goin to have to rig it up somehow. Did you get the relay and harness and everything with them?

i think i have the wiring harness.- didnt see any mention of a relay, so i might need to pick one of those up.
that brings me to another question:
when i took off my front bumper i noticed that i had an extra harness coming off my turn signals..is that for the fogs?
that would be extra convenient if it were.
i guess i'm on my own putting that switch on my dash, probably put it near my roof/cruise/dimmer cluster.

I'm not a wiring specialist so I wont answer that. I bought my fogs used from someone that bought them from Honda brand new and got EVERYTHING so install was plug and play for me. I will say that the plug you mentioned is for the fogs though.

go to RadioShack and get an automotive 4-pin relay and a plug and harness set for it too.

What is the function of the harness and relay? Why can't the fogs just be wired up with a standard switch and call it a day?

92-95 Civics have the exact same lens piece, and other honda models might as well, so if you'd like them clear again instead of having that funky looking blue on them, you can order those.

a switch can't usually handle the amperage the fog's will pull. The relay lets a low-amperage switch and wire control a much more powerful power source. Check out a set of fog's from Autozone and look at the harness they come with. you'll wire it up like this:

Switch side of relay:
pos.------switch-----------relay----------ground

Power side of relay:
pos.------fogs-------------relay-----------ground

on the switch side, you can pull the positive from the fuse box off a fuse that switches on w/ the lights, so you don't accidentally leave them on; but they can only come on w/ the headlights then. Check the package the relay came in; it should explain the pins.

LudeyKrus, thanks man that makes perfect sense to me.... i think i need to rewire my H1s that way as well, its switched right from the battery and the wires heat up really quick... this oughtta solve the problem.... beautiful.

all the wiring is already on your car. i put a set of them on my 93 so i know for sure.

the switch will just plug in to a plug that is taped off by the left tweeter wiring. you gota dig in there and youll find it.

the wiring for the relay is under or around the steering column, you just have to find it and use a relay that will fit it.i have one if you need it. just pay for shipping.

follow the directions on the hondaautomotiveparts. and you should be fine. the only thing you dont need is that little harness they sell. the relay will fit right into the one under the dash already. its really easy. pm with anymore questions....

this is a picture of the relay. you should be looking for the brown plug under your dash. then the realy will just plug in...

disregard the blue wire with plug
