Default A20 swap out options

Hey, first post, referred to honda-tech by some buddies. I hope this is the right forum for my question....was unsure if it belonged in technical instead

Hope you guys can help me out here.

I have an 89 Accord Exi, equipped with the A20 engine (fuel injected). The car should be scrapped, but I wanna see if I can fix it up for less than the price of a decent beeter.

The engine blows white, cylender 3 leaks coolant from the exhaust port. The car was parked in outside (snow) for 1 year. So it runs, but not exceptionally.

I was wondering what are my cheap swap options to save this car. I'd rather not fix the A20 since its tired and I want something I can count on.

The engine seems too rare to have any info posted about it.

What are the direct, reliable swaps I can do for cheap.

Thanks

i think the b series will swap in with a mount kit (if that) and some wiring...i've seen a lot of b series powered 3rd gens......an obd0 b16 motor isn't too bad and a lot better than the a20

keep it simple. Just swap another accord engine in.

Holly ****....thanks for the quick replies guys

I'll check it out.

As for a B20 out of a late 80's lude, any custom work needed?

Its really a tossup, that car needs life support, but I donno if I wanna scrap it or fix it.

Engine blows white, exhaust leaks, shocks knock, brakes dont brake, ac is shot, windsheild cracked, clutch slips

I geuss thats what I get for getting a car for free

the B20 motor mounts right in,just need to get a tranny mount, you will have to look for a gen specific vaccum advance car too, most likely a blacktop jdm 88-89 accord B20,you can still use your stock ecu and intake manifold off of the a20 but it will not preform as well if you dont get the B20 ecu,and the usdm B20 lude motor will not work without alot of fabbing work,Jdm b20 leans towards the radiator and the b20 from the usdm motor leans backwards, causing mount problems....not impossiblr though but lots of $$$$,I reccomend just building the a20,it has a strong block and can be built just as well.

I have an 89 LX but converted to 4wheel disc brakes and from auto to manual. A B-series engine will go into the 3geez (86-89 accords) but you have to get a slew of placeracing crap (mounts, axles, wiring conversion). Total for all that is about 3k. See I, being the lucky bastard that I am, I found a 93 LS Integra motor for $250 and a JDM B16 VTEC for an old civic tranny. LS/VTEC baybee... Personally I have no regrets about hooking up the old skool Accord. Under-rated and just plain fun... check out my car if you are looking for anything.

Those A blocks are some of Honda's last (if not the) iron blocks. I say rebuild that A20 with some forged pistons and boost the **** out of it.
