Default Turbo GSR Question

Hey. I designed my urbo kit with a Td05 turbo and with 6 pounds of boost I melted 1 piston and now i want to upgrade. Im going to not sleeve the block and just run and 18 g turbo with 9 to 1 static compression pistons and crowler rods to handle the boost which is 20 pounds. What do you guys think and what have you done for boost thats that high.

and maybe you should try tuning you're car on a dyno. No one should melt a piston at 9lbs of boost....

Yea, you have to be pretty good to melt a piston at that low of boost.

Agreed.
What else have you done to the engine? Cuz it probably wont hold up long with 20 psi on a near stock engine. Unless someone can prove me wrong.

If you keep your a/f ratio ok, with good rods and pistons you should be able to handle 20psi, although sleeving the block will definitely give you some insurance. People are making good power on stock sleeves, but as soon as you detonate once, you'll crack one.

No flame intended, but if you blew up a piston on 9psi, you need to work out your fuel system first. You need a hondata or an AEM EMS. Don't go the afc hack route, it won't be as reliable.

blowing piston number 1 on a high compression engine is not difficult at all. especially if it wasn't intercooled! (what were u thinking!!??) more then likely, the car wasn't tuned correctly!! when the car is running too lean, then the temperature in the combustion chambers get to crazy levels. my advice to you is the resleeve the cylinder and grab a set of forged pistons, intercool it, tune it properly with a stand-alone ecu, and then ur set to run 20psi!
