Default boost creep in a wrx?

i know this is HONDA-tech, but i felt bad for this guy so i thought id try and ask. this guy at the shop i go to has a larger turbo, turbo-xs 3" exhaust, and other wrx stuff that i didnt really get. anyway, he said he was getting boost creep on the dyno, and was trying to fix it by putting his cat back on. one guy at the shop said it would fix it, the other guy said it wont do anything. does anyone have experience with these? any ideas? i know the details are vague but any help would be appreciated, thanks.

He has a shitass downpipe that doesn't have very good clearence in the flange section for the internal wastegate (that is if it is an internal wastegate). All WRX's have this problem even on stock turbo with a crappy downpipe. If he puts his cat back in that I belive will put him back to the stock downpipe setup which will (on a stock turbo) stop the creep. On the bigger one... it will most likely just hurt power delivery and responce. I'd tell him to get a better downpipe if the new turbo is internally wastegated and if he's got the money.

This same problem was written about in SCC magazine when they did Project WRX.

Hope this helps.
