What are retainers, and what do they do?
? i asked something about changing cams and someone recommended I put in titanium retainers as insurance...no idea what they are tho
you can think of them as an "end-cap" of sorts to the valvespring.
going to lighter ones (i.e. titanium) simply reduces the mass of the valvetrain and lowers the chance of damage should an over-rev condition occur.
if you are bother to change your valvesprings, upgraded retainers are an expensive, but worthy upgrade.

At first everything may seem a little dark or confusing on what things are or how things xactly work.
However the more you ask & the more you read, the more clear they will be.

AEM CAI (purchased, yet waiting to be installed)
Spoon 4-2-1 Headers
Toda Spec A's
Cam gears (suggestions? TOda? Spoon?)
Valve springs (suggestions again?)
Retainers (haha suggestions again?)
damn i need $$$

for the A's its not required that you change your valvetrain. I hear that if youre not going to rev high, the stock valvetrain will do you fine.
Ah i see. Then i guess i need not spend money in placed I dont need to. Now if i were to incororate Nitrous (50 shot or lower) then it would be a good idea to upgrade my drivetrain, yes?
