Default Titanium Retainers

I am wondering if anyone other than Crower makes Titanium Retainers for b18a1/b motors. I ask for trying to find a cheaper solution.

Other thing I'm wondering is who here actually think Titanium retainers are needed on a nonvtec B18A1 with Crower cams & valve springs. I'm not planning on revving higher than 7200rpm. Some people say it's mostly good for higher rpm applications, and the only reason I'm thinking of getting them is for reliability. I don't know if stock retainers can fail due to the higher forces put on them by the stronger springs & increased lift.

Anyone actually have experience with this? I'm thinking it's not required, as even on crower's website they only recommend springs. I know everything helps and it's worth it to get everything to be safe, but I don't exactly have the largest budget and if I can really do without these safely, I'd much rather put the money towards my headwork. Thanks!

if you only plan to go to 7200rpm then save your money for somthing else........they work good for 8500+rpm........anything less it's not that important......

i think crower has the cheapest price for ti-retainers around.....

per say... you replace the cams with 402s or 403s, replace the valve springs (single or dual???) and use titanium retainers, what could you safely rev to? What would you be making power to?

Pb_foot: You've got to go with the appropriate springs recommended by crower. Check out their website.

As for retainers, I spoke with Crower and they state that it is not needed whatsoever for non-vtec 403's, and it's only an addition for building a perfect head. They said they've done testing with OEM retainers and have never had any failure. This makes me NOT choose to get Ti retainers and instead put the money elsewhere!

Ok. Instead of being a bit of a smart ***, why don't you explain how a slightly modified B18A1 cost you 4k to rebuild *IF* you only had retainer failure. If your scenario was different (FI, higher than 7200rpm) there's no reason why "4k" worth of damages would have occured.

Brian Crower himself stated "Retainers are not mandatory. No failures with OEM retainers. " in an email he sent to me. If you want to make fun of my statements then please elaborate. If you have advice as to WHY i should go with titanium retainers with my valvetrain upgrades, please shoot instead of cracking jokes of how being cheap will cost exagerated amounts of money.

Be clear: I'm not trying to start poop, just trying to help others and myself out by maybe learning from your experiences instead of being ridiculed.
