Just finished turboing a B16. The car runs fine but after like a few mins (3 mins) barely boosting the car overheats. It goes way into the H zone.

We had to use a half sized 92-95 Civic radiator and an aftermarket fan. Fan works fine.

There are no leaks. Also the reservoir thing was filled up half way but when it overheated, the thing was filled to the top

We turned on the heater....and there is no heat whatsoever. Just cool air.

Could this mean that the radiator is clogged? Bad Thermostat? Bad Radiator cap?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks !

 

Even when the car is moving (not boosting, just cruising) , the car still overheats.

Had the identical problem, head was lifting.

 

No smoke coming from the exhaust. But could a very small leak cause the engine to overheat and cause no smoke to come out from the exhaust?

 

Oh yeah, like if I shut it off and let it cool for a few mins then turn it back on, and leave it idling for 5 mins it doesn't overheat....

Like maybe 2-3 mins after the car moves it starts to hit go up fast!

 

look under the radiator cap. you might find milky stuff. If so, its your headgasket, or like boosted hybrid said, the head is lifting. Get some ARP's.

Mine did the exact same thing on my old motor.

i just turboed mines and changed the thermostat which sometimes tends to overheat too, stock radiator and stock fan.

what about the water pump? you can check that...

 

Thing is, the thermostat worked fine before the turbo install....

 

is your wastegate blowing on your radiator... that might contribute to some of your problem.

 

wastegate doesnt open when I'm cruising...and it overheats when i'm cruising. so...that's out of the question

 

Did you say you had heat and now you have no heat in your car? Did you do anything with the water Lines?

 

There was heat before, now there is no heat coming out from the vents when I have it set at maximum blast.

All I did was remove the radiator (full size) and put in a half size radiator. Those two big lines are the only ones that I touched

 

Id replace the thermostat. feel the hoses, are they both hot or only one? if its only one hose. dead thermostat.

bleed out all the air bubbles?

any bubbles in the rad when the rad cap is off?

 

How do you bleed out the air bubbles? I dumped out the radiator fluid and and closed the bottom valve then poured in new fluid.

 

to bleed the rad, let it idle for 45 minutes with the radiator cap off and watch bubbles come out. refill every so often.

btw, arent you the guy who made that pimp *** engine hoist out of wood?

 

right before my turbo install, my thermostat was working fine. right after the install it just happen to break..

to bleed the coolant on my car, i took off the cap. Then I loosened the bleeder screw until there was a constant flow while the car was running...

BTW, leave the car at idles and refill it with water or coolant every time the fan kicks in

How's the air/fuel ratio?
Running it rich at cruisin can cause engine to overheat.

 

when that happens it sounds like the head gaskets is going. Usually when there is no heat going to the inside. Give it about couple more min. of driving white smoke will come out and overheat.

 

Funny, changed the radiator cap for a Spoon one and it's all fixed!

Spoon is GOD.
