Default Turbo spoolin times?

Just wondering what contributes to identical turbos spoolin up at different rates. Does a 3" exhaust have a lot to do with how fast the turbo spools. I have t3/t4 and mine fully spools at about 4500rpm. My buddy has the same size but is in full boost around 3400rpm. So what gives? Im running a drag kit with a 2.25 exhaust, dsm injectors, hondata stage2,etc.. My compression is around 9-1. Does the lower compression have something to do with it? Frankly im lost and would love some suggestions. Im sure the exhaust is a major problem but you guys no more than me. Any help would be awsome. Thanx.

Exhaust piping diameter, Wastegate adjustment/condition, A/F ratio, timing, fuel octane, the comp and turbine specs (a/r, etc.) of the turbos, the engine's static/dynamic compression, length of exhaust piping, bore size.

I think I probably left something out, but this should give you some idea. I would also check for cracks in the manifold, or leaks in the piping, as well as turbocharger condition/health of bearings.

Happy Boosting!

I just had the same problem. My set-up has the same turbo but I run an internal wastegate, and the stock actuator was open all the time for 9psi...so pick up a smaller actuator and put it on for 6 psi. Now it,s closed and I run a MBC to open at 9 psi. Sppol time went from 4700 to 3900rpm. It's like a totally different car now. If you have an external gate though, different story for ya then.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by turbo se &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">thanx for all the input guys i hope things will be better after the 3" mandrel bent exhaust and the tuning is done. </TD></TR></TABLE>

The 3" should make a HUGE difference. 2.25" is just too small for a turbo app.
