Default Advance Timing

I was told Advanceing my timing to 18 degrees would give me more power. I advanced it, but I wasn't sure where the 18 degree mark was. The car pulls hard now and burns allot of gas. Does anyone know exactly where the 18 degrees mark is?

You'll need a timing light.

yes, advance timing wil give u more low end power, and sacrify high end power, dat need to pull ur car away faster...........yes u'll burn more gas ; there fore , i would not recommend u advance it...........unless u plan to race with sumone........

agree, u need a timing gun,,,,,,,, use scs connector, and ground ur ecm before u adjust ur timing, to be accurate..............peace

I don't think I lost any high end power. I am able to get to 100 MPH quicker then before. I even feel when the VTEC kicks in.

If your car is 96 or newer moving the distributor doesnt advance timing.

How much more gas does it use? A lot more or just a little? Does it do any minor or major engine damage? I have a 95' accord LX with 187,000 miles on it, good or bad idea?
