Default can advancing the timing from spec. affect anything? gas mileage, power etc.

i dont have a timing light right now so what if i advanced my distributor all the way?.. ive heard of people doing this and are there any reasons why i shouldnt?

Well people retard their timing usually to help lower the chances of detonating.

So you can formulate an answer from that
