How much did ya pay for tuning your car
i just got back from the dyno with my cuzin he got a turbo lsvtec coupe and he wanted to know around how much will it cost him to tune his car, well he needed a computer for it to be tuned so we couldnt tune it at the moment, so we asked how much will it cost him for next time and he said "if you buy a aem computer then its 1800 to tune and if u go with hondata then its 1100 to tune it, that includes the intallation of the computer" i just wanted to know around how much this usually goes for, im workin on my all motor crvtec and plannin to go with hondata and course i needed tuned so i need to know.
thanks alot guys
thanks alot guys
With or without buying the computer from them 1100 for a tune up on the dyno seems a little pricey. However out here in NYC it may be more expensive then some other shops but 1100 seems a little outrageous. Unless it includes a new motor or something LOL...
lol
thats what im saying, its kinda crazzy, i took it to DRT, in queen ny, you probably heard of them, and it does not include the computer he has to buy his own computer, if it was included with the 1100 then it wouldnt be soo bad,

Every tuner is different. Ask them what their hourly tuning rate is and how many hours of tuning they'll charge you for.
On a Hondata, just doing full throttle tuning, plus cam gear adjustments shouldn't take more than 3 hours max (I think it should average about 1.5-2 hours, but again, everyone is different - some people might think 1.5 hours is too long :-). Part throttle tuning adds more time in, although not all dynos are capable of this, and many operators won't street tune (liability). But the Hondata system is simple and gives you a good base map, so its easy to tune.
Other operators will charge you a flat fee to tune a car. I haven't seen many that do this though for simpler systems like Hondata, so I couldn't tell you what to expect price wise.
More complex systems like the EMS (or MOTEC) take longer. AEM has been constantly improving their base maps, so tuning time has come down substantially since they were first introduced, but you can still expect an AEM to take longer to tune than a Hondata.

I read this as the tuner is also installing the engine management system.... if so then that price is cheap. There are people who make $125/hr and or $1000/day to tune a motor(s)....
You can read posts on this board about getting their cars tuned and making 20 more whp and paying 1-2 hours dyno time.
- I'd be happy to make 1/2 that without people bitching.

so would i, i rather pay 150per hour then 1100 think about it, if its 150 an hour he wont take more then 3 hours even if he takes 6 hours tunin it it still comes out to 900, and theres no way anyone can take that long on tunin a car, but oh wellz ill just check some other places,

yes it plugs right into the stock harness so its not alot of work he is doing to install it, i can do it outside before the shop opens and then let him tune it, lol,
