Default Did you tune it yourself or pay to have it tuned?

I'm curious if you tuned it yourself or paid someone else to do it. For purposes of this thread "paid someone else" means you did not participate at all in modifying the engine parameters for your car. If you did a base tune yourself (and I don't mean just burning a chip - actual seat time with a wideband and/or dyno) then count yourself in "self tuned."

By "DIY Tool" I mean: (but not limited to)
Crome
Uberdata
TurboEdit
BRE
OBD0Edit
etc.
(if I forgot you, please don't be upset)

By "Commercial Tool" I mean: (again, if I leave you out, don't take it personally)
Neptune
Hondata S200
Hondata S300
AEM EMS

"DIY" paid (Blundar) on last setup.
Will be doing it myself with Crome Pro this time around-- possibly having someone with a bit more experience finish it up on the dyno.

Started self tuning today on my S300 Its actually easier than it looks, just got to focus on one thing at a time.

Tuned it myself with Uberdata, Tech-Edge, and dyno dynamics. Was an awesome learning experience, I'd definately do it again.

Yes and no...remember you have to pay attention to water temperature, oil pressure, afr, detonation etc all at the same time, im sure u already know that, but just stating for others....but yes focusing at a fuel map or ignition at a time and doing correction maps afterwards, which should be minimal if your base maps are tuned good...

DIY w/ AEM EMS & techedge here. street tune just about complete, need to get on the dyno to complete the ignition.

there are no tuners I trust in my area and my only paid tune experience was not a good one.

I am aware of that, I have all the gagues right in front of me, I meant focus on a low speed map, then a high speed etc... dont play with the low speed maps, then jump to a air correction table then adjust your tranny then jump back, I can see **** getting ***'d up real quick that way.

DIY with Crome and Turboedit. Most of the time with TE and helping test/debug it.

Innovate LM-1
Ostrich (love it... won't ever burn chips again )
Street tuning.

I won't ever use another pay to play option again after having learned what I have and used the tools that the PGMFI crew has put out there.

well since we are a hondata dealer and have our own dyno, it goes w/o saying. i did have a hand in my tuning. i am stepping up to the s300b and this time i think i am going to do the tuning myself, or atleast have more input into it. i am still learning. and have learned alot from james.

i tuned tune myself with crome and left happy with 351hp 238tq @14psi on a b16 with a t3t4oe.

Did all the motor work my self, Just waiting for that dude named blundar to get ahold of me to tune it I'm just too lazy to go out and buy the needed tools to do it my self

Same here. After struggling for a decent tune on my ride for hours upon hours, I lost the desire to do it again.

I used Crome Pro with the Ostrich. It is a nice setup, but my engine is a picky ***** when it comes to small changes in fuel/timing.

DIY... Paid, the tuner showed up, unplugged what i had been using as a basemap, and made his own basemap on spot.. Started the car, and just did some afr tuning with a wideband and an ostrich.

I gotta hit up a dyno.

whats the average everyone spends on dyno time??? Where im from there talking about 600 bucks. 600 bucks I can buy a 200 dollar laptop, 170 ostrich and 55 for a willems burner. Borrow a freinds wide band and tune it my-self.

street tuned my ls/vtec holset hx35 combo....w/ crome diy....figured what the hell i built the whole thing myself...might as well take a hack at tuing...did a lot of reading and still would love to hit up efi univ...but im also a budget racer...overall car runs great just gotta hit the rollers to tidy up a few things...think im actaully ready to switch from 1.8 to the newest crome version...
