oil leak?????????????????why??????
I have a 98 gsr with a t3/04 E turbo kit on it and have had nothing but problems with it. I can not seem to stop a oil leak coming form the return line off the turbo. At first I had a hose with clamps on it and it leaked, so I put a braided hose with earls fittings on it and thought I was done. NOPE! the damn fitting that goes into the flange on the turbo is leaking! wtf? Im so tired of oil leaks Im ready to sell the whole car! I put a 10an hose with all the earls fittings on it and still have this leak. Tomorrow I will put a lil silicone on the threads and see if that stops the leak. Just wanted to see if anyone else had had this problem. THANX for all your help fellas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you can see the oil leak.........that should narrow it down (duh i guess)
If its leaking at the hose end (earls fitting), maybe you did not assemble the fitting correctly? Remember, you gotta put these babies in a vice and crimp it on good. I first assembled braided lines and i didn't know what i was doing and it leaked like a mother. I then found the CORRECT way to assemble the lines and it works beautiful

Actually, a guy at a hose and fitting assembly business told me to not use teflon tape...this makes sense because it is a compression fitting and doesn't make the seal with the threads. It makes the seal with the tapered part of the fitting and the ferule (or do Earl's not use these? I use Aeroquip).
I would suggest tightening the fitting until you think you might break it, you have to crush the ferule to some extent to get a seal...assuming earl's work like Aeroquip. Also, it might be leaking from the plate that the fitting attaches too, the turbo gets hot and could have melted whatever you used to seal it, if it wasn't a high-temp gasket. Even RTV will burn up.

teflon.......paste? whats that? where can I get that? I have XRP fitting but they are the same as Earls. on the side without tefdlon tape it is not leaking but around the side that does have it is where the flangwe and everything else is so Im not sure if its leaking from the flange or what. I think its leaking from the compressor side housing cuz it wobbles alot like if you didnt tighten your lugnuts and the tire would wobble. Im tired of oil leaking everywhere!!!!!!!!!!
I did use a 450 degree rtv silicon for the gasket. where can I get a high temp gasket from?

ok thats 2 people that say they use teflon "paste" what is that? where can I get it? what about a gasket for the flange on the oil return? can I make a gasket for that and outta what? thanx for the help fellas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I still need a downpipe for a 5 bolt housing on a drag 2 kit t3/4 B

make sure you didnt overtorque the 1/2 npt thread from return line assembly to flange...i cracked my flange and that leaked like a *****...
before that, i forgot to put teflon tape on it, so it was leaking...so i tried to tighten it and i cracked that flange into 2...
so...
#1 - use teflon tape
#2 - don't overtorque
#3 - make sure your flange is tight and that it has gasket on it
good luck...

I have heard from many, and also read that you are not supposed to use teflon tape or paste on the oil fittings. In the instructions for my turbo, it said use teflon tape on all the fittings EXCEPT any oil lines.
My experience with teflon paste wasnt that great, I used it on a NOS kit that I used to have and it didnt seal worth crap, then I used the tape and it worked completely.
I got my teflon paste at the hardware store in the plumbing section.
but imo I wouldnt use either. but hey the choice is yours
