Timing?
Aight, my beater, 90 dx auto, has hesitation at low rpms so this weekend I'll be doing a general rundown, timing, cap/rotor, plugs etc. Personally I think my timing belt just jumped a tooth bc it happened suddenly and while I was revving a good bit. But after thinking about it I got to wondering some things...
The first thing is if when the belt jumps does it always jump in the same direction i.e. avdance or retard. And if so which, and if not then is it jus a 50/50 chance either way? I figure it would be the same way since the belt rotates in 1 direction.
So with that said and if 1 tooth on the belt is I think 16-18degrees would it be possible to "adjust" the timing back properly with an adjustable cam gear? I think 1 notch on the gear is 2 degrees, least thats what I remember hearing. So if 1 tooth is 16-18 degrees shouldnt this be possible?
I know its best to adjust the belt itself these were just thoughts that went through my head as I was thinking about it, and if anything is wrong or slightly off then correct me please. Anybodys thoughts are appreciated.
