Why is my car having such a hard time starting?
Help everyone!!
I have a 92 accord with 68k on it. My car would start then immediately die. This would go on about 15 times until the car finally would start. It seems to happen more often when the car has been sitting for awhile. A coworker told me he had the same problem in his 95 and it ended up being the distributor. Well in a rush i went to the dealership to buy a distributor, rotor, cap and got raped for $325. I replaced everything last night and this morning it started fine but today when i went home the same problem. The alternator and starter has already been replaced and the battery voltage is fine. please help!
Thanks,
Sid

if you look on the passenger side under the dash just before where the door hinge is, there should be a small panel that snaps in and the edge of it rests under the kick panels on the edge of the door...pull that panel off and look for a small 2 pin light blue plug. jumper those 2 pins together and the ECU will flash whatever codes you have stored...also my 90 ECU had a LED on the structure of it that flashed the codes so i didn't have to jumper that plug...check your ECU
Hey Spankey!
Did replacing your main relay fix your problem? I don't mind spending the money as long as the car runs fine. Dude i have to admit it feels like i got screwed hard with no vaseline for replacing the distributor and that not be the fix.
Meanwhile i noticed oil on my distributor for my honda that has 208,000 miles on it. This time i am only going to change the o-ring
Thanks,
Sid

yea basically, long flash's will be the first digit
if theres a second digit like a code 13 or something there will be short flashes after the long ones...
i gotta check my **** also cuz i've had my check engine light come on a couple times...most recently right after changing my oil and heading up to my friends cottage ( had a good 160km/hour average) so i was going quiet fast...and the light came on
gotta c wats wrong

stimpy or anyone can you please point out the part that needs to be replaced. There are so many relays and none of them are $80 bucks.
Thanks,
Sid

It's located under the dash... You have to be a contortionist to do this....
Tools needed:
- Ratchet wrench w/ an extension attachment
- 10 mm socket
- Beer (chicks optional)
Directions:
- Remove the panel located just directly under the steering column (under the dash) and remove the four bolts connected to the metal panel. (this is to see underneath better)
- If you look closely, there should be a metal box (that's the tranny ecu)- right behind that is the main relay. Remove the bolts that holding down the tranny ecu and some kind of plastic attachment (5 bolts in all). Careful not to pull the ecu too hard when moving it aside...
- From here, you should have access to the main relay... Simply bring down carefully and unplug the old relay... Plug in the new one... Hint: I sprayed an electrical cleaner in the female- side of the plug to clean it out before I plugged in the new relay...
- Before putting everything back in reverse order, start the car to ensure that the relay is plugged in and working...
- When you're sure that it's working- turn car off (Doh!) and put everything back in reverse order... Always double- check your work...
- pat yourself on the back and have a beer...
Hope this helps....

You're probably already done, but if not, this page is great as well to illustrate the procedure:
