Default Can a Honda Oil Filter leak?

I've had this random oil leak lately. After 20/30 minutes driving and then coming to a stop, smoke comes out from the hood and sides of the car. (no fire though)

Originally, it was thought that the oil breather tank caused the problem, but that's not it. Oil appears to be dripping onto the header causing the smoke (still no fire)
My neighbor (who says he's a mechanic) stuck his hand under the oil filter and said it was wet there and followed by saying, it only happens after driving a while because the oil heats up & leaks out of the filter.

I changed my oil today for the first time since the new block was installed so hopefully that solves the problem. If not...guess I'll (or D) will try something different

Just to make sure, are you positive the oil dipstick tube is not leaking?

That is a pretty common place to have an oil leak.

It seems very odd to leak oil out of the block near the oil filter.

Check to make sure the oil cooler and oil pressure sender are installed properly.

If there was any old filter gasket left on the block it could leak there.

I have seen some OEM Filters @ my dealership come without the gasket on the filter. Just a thought check it out!

I put the filter on. it had a gasket. whether or not it's tight enough.. well, i duno. It is not leaking from the pressure sending unit either. it is either the o-ring on the breather box, or well, something else around there.

Gasket in tact then has to be something close by. I would think the O ring would be a good chance if not the gasket.

so far so good after the oil change. We'll see... I guess I'm just burning the previously leaked shiot off now. Maybe I'll get off my *** and wipe everything down tomorrow and see what happens after that....probably not though

lube the gasket with a bit of new oil (old will work also)...then hand tight on, then after it is hand tight, proceed to tighten it another 1/4 turn.

this will be tight enough.

Seeing as its a new block, could it be the oil cooler between the block and the filter?
