Default JDM R Guage Cluster

Which year JDM guage cluster is recommended? Are they all plug and play in a 2000 DC2? Are the 98spec better than 96spec?

The clear plastic shield on the front of the cluster- Is it easily removed/ replaced?

The reason I ask is I am bidding on one on ebay right now and the plastic shield was removed because supposably it has [I]minor[I] scratches. I figured I could just take the plastic off mine and transfer it to the JDM one. Is this a bad buy because the needles on the tach and speedo may have been touched?

Thank you in advance for your help

You ask a good question and I hope this will help:

I had a Spoon cluster in my 00' R and the only problems I had was with the gas gauge. The problem was when I had a full tank of gas, the meter read that I had half a tank. And when I turned my hazard lights the speedo jumped up and down between 0-300 rpm's. As for the best choice i'm not quite sure about that, I think matching years would be easiest.

Thanks Kurt for the help- You don't have the Spoon Cluster anymore do you?

It seems that with a 97 spec I need to swap the green film on the back or the actual guages into my cluster... Anyone recommend which one is easier?

Thanks again!

you have to use the same year that your car is from. 96 spec works with 94-97 cars, 98 spec works with 98+

Sorry but I just sold it to a guy on H-T, Michael. But I can get them used if you want one? I also have 1 97' spec cluster if you want it? No rush just let me know.
