i just bought new front rotors for my 93 civic. I took everything off and then i went to unscrew those 2 little screws that hold the rotor in and they wouldnt move. I tryed WD-40 and using a screwdriver. then i went and bought that special tool that you are supposed to use---> that silver, spring loaded rod that u hit with a hammer and it turns the bit. or maybe i wasnt using that tool right, if you know what im talkin about, that didnt work either. Any one have any ideas on how im supposed to get these screws off??? thanks for any help you can give me

 

that thing u bought is an impact happer right?? like you bang it with a hammer and it turns???

If thats what u bought then thats what u should use...

 

Just keep putting wd-40 or maybe even croil (bolt losener) to try and get it loose. I hate to say it, but kicking it and banging it don't do TOO much. I've been in your position MANY times and it SUCKS. All I can say is have patients!

Impact with a phillips head bit....if you don't have access to an impact gun then drill them out...that's what I did....I broke the bit trying to get them out with an impact so I got my drill and drilled them biyatches out..you don't really need them...your wheels will hold he rotors on....

 

We have always used an impact screwdriver and it has ALWAYS worked.

When using the impact screwdriver, remember that it can both loosen AND tighten screws. This is determined by which way you turn it before hitting it.

Turn it towards the way you want then hit it a few times.

 

I've always used a socket with a phillips bit and a ratchet.

 

It might work but you run more risk stripping it.

 

yup, the impact driver has always worked for me. just bang the **** out of it, if it doesn't budge...try wd-40 and let it sit for a while.

I just hit the rotor with a hammer right around the screws to loosen up the threads and kept spraying on the WD-40. It worked for me just took a little time and patience. Good luck.

hmmmm... an impact-driver sounds like a better/more affective/ and safer way to do it.

 

Use that tool that you bought. Just make sure its rotating in the direction you want it to, and just smack it with a hammer. Works everytime, like everyone said.

 

just keep trying with the impact driver. If a normal hammer wont cut it, try getting a 4" sledge hammer. It gives a lot more force when you strike at it.

Drill the heads of the screws out WITHOUT touching the rotors. Use a drill bit that is just a little bit smaller than the head of the screw and leave a little material there rather than drilling the rotor.

Find some bolts that fit the jack screw holes that are 90 degrees from the screws. Thread the bolts in evenly and the heads of the screws should pop off or pull through.

 

I had the same problem. Needless to say, I don't run those screw's anymore. While I was trying to get mine out I ended up stripping the screw. So, I attempted to use that impact screw driver that had been mentioned and I broke the tip on the #2 bit. The others were too small or to big. I thought I was screwed. Then I got the bright idea of using a cut off wheel. I put I nice big slot down the middle and then I was able to use a flat head screw driver to back the screw out.

I take a flat head and pound it into the screw, and than chizel it out. I have a bag full of 100 of them in my garage.

 

i hade the same problem and i bought the same tool as u. The impact drive i bought had a 1/2 drive socket were you change the bit. so i put that on my breakerbar and use the phillips head the fit a it came of like nothing. It's all about leverage.
